Thrombosis

Pulmonary embolism (PE) occurs when a blood clot forms and travels to the lungs. The UK Department of Health estimates that every year at least 25,000 people lose their lives in UK hospitals to PE.

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is the formation of a blood clot in a deep vein. Collectively, PE and DVT are known as venous thromboembolism (VTE).

Thankfully, once detected, VTE is very treatable. LEO Pharma has been developing heparin-based products to combat VTE since the 1940s. Treating thrombosis 

Heparin-based products are a key part of thrombosis management. They are administered as a prophylactic measure to people in high-risk groups, as well as being a standard treatment for those diagnosed with VTE.
