Preclinical development

Our Formulation and Development team is focused on the development of new products and the further development of existing treatments. In collaboration with the Discovery function, we select active drug compounds and progress them as drug candidates in preclinical and clinical development.

Preclinical development

We continually assess the drug candidate for potential risk to human health. This continues throughout all stages of clinical development.

We prepare patent applications covering new compounds, their therapeutic uses, formulations and processes.

Pharmaceutical formulation

Potential new molecules progress to the pharmaceutical formulation phase to design and test:

• The choice of ingredients to complement the pharmaceutical substance
• The dosage form 
• The manufacturing methods

The optimum pharmaceutical formulation secures the right absorption of the drug molecule into the human body with a minimal side-effect profile.
